PROS

  • A fun take on the choose-your-own-adventure concept
  • The way the 3D objects are rendered are very atmospheric

CONS

  • The game is too easy for fans of other Steve Jackson games
  • It has combat mechanics that are not fleshed out enough

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain game allows you to create your own journey and adventure while battling with an RPG game mechanic. Fight with turn-based combat and choose the direction your story goes. Fight your way into Zagor's lair with the hero of your choice, and make choices that will affect how the game turns out.

Another instant classic RPG by Steve Jackson

If you have played other Steve Jackson story games, then you will know what to expect. The Warlock of Firetop Mountain places you in a small tabletop environment where the terrain generates as you move from one location to another. The graphics are initially simple, but the textures, 3D objects, and lighting is very sophisticated, which results in a very atmospheric game. The game involves lots of reading because text panels spawn whenever you interact with objects, and you have to read the story as you go. As the text-based story is generated, you are expected to choose an option to progress the game. They have added Xbox controller compatibility, which means you can play the game on your PC with an Xbox controller. It is 100 times better with the controller.

It feels like you are playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends

If you have ever played Dungeons and Dragons, you will feel quite nostalgic when you play the Warlock of Firetop Mountain. For example, one line says, ?You open a door to find a large room with two Orcs.? If you are a fan of text driven games, or games by Steve Jackson, then you will not be disappointed. The combat doesn?t feel as complete as previous Steve Jackson games, but the story will more than make up for the lack of sizzle when you engage in the game?s turn-based combat.
